RETURNEE INFLOW FROM THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN
During this reporting period, Afghan returns from the Islamic Republic of Iran continued apace, peaking at over 33,000 individuals on July 9 and totaling over 171,000 arrivals, 82 per cent of whom are families. Coordination among partners remains strong, with ongoing Border Coordination Forums, 24/7 site management services, and integrated hot meals distribution, though key gaps persist in meeting needs, including inadequate shaded waiting areas, WASH facilities, transport limitations, and women and child safe spaces. The DfA continues to support returnees by mobilizing private sectors and constructing new areas to improve registration and assistance workflows. In both Islam Qala and Milak, WASH sector partners continue to work on improving WASH infrastructure and water access at the ZP and RCs.
